Business Requirements Document

There are different parts of the document. Some of the sections are very necessary while others may not be necessary for your organization. You may hear any or all or even more than these sections in the document:

  • Cover
  • Version Control
  • Executive Summary
  • Background
  • Business Opportunity
  • Business Objectives
  • Market Needs
  • Business Context
  • Business Case
  • Vision
  • Scope
  • Risk Assessment
  • Timetable
  • Constraints
  • Dependencies
  • Business Use Cases
  • Glossary
  • Sign-Off

Always start with a cover page with your Project Name, Document version number, your name, and the date on it. If you can, include your company or Department name and your company logo on the page. This is not a place to sweat the small stuff on the document. However, this document is meant to be read by high level stakeholders, so you'll want your presentation to reflect that.

Also have a table of contents on the second page so that your readers can navigate the document easily.
